How to Use Your Parent/Teacher Time Wisely

With the majority of students well and truly back into the swing of the new school year, it will soon be time for parents to begin meeting their child’s new teachers. When this time comes, it’s important for all parents to make the most of their time. With this in mind, The Tutoring Center, Oro Valley has the following tips to share.

Start With a List

Just like many of life’s challenges, it’s a list which is going to be your savior! After all, who doesn’t love a list?! Take some time with a notebook and a pen and think about the learning challenges which your child faced during the previous school year. Once you have this list, also consider any social challenges your student came up against and include them on your list. Once this is complete, prioritize the items on it.

Hand up If You Have a Question!

Okay, maybe not that strict, but when you first meet with each teacher, be sure to let them speak first. Allow them the time to introduce themselves, tell you about their teaching style, and also what they expect from each of their students throughout the school year. If you hear any items which raise a concern, instead of interrupting, keep a mental note and discuss them after the teacher has finished speaking.

Don't Waste Your Time

Making a positive connection with your child’s teacher is important, but if you notice that the conversation is starting to swerve off topic, be sure to bring it back and continue working through your list.  Given that the teacher will be meeting each of their students’ parents, you will likely have limited time so it’s important that you make the most of it.
