We can’t overstate the importance of reading in the education of your children, as it will expand their vocabulary, enhances cognitive skills, plus several studies show a strong link between literacy and better job opportunities in the future. For this reason at The Tutoring Center in Oro Valley, we created the following post containing useful advice on motivating your children to read.

Finding the Right Books

The first step is finding stories that match your children’s interests. This may seem simple, but it’s more like a trial and error process. Keep in mind that reading not only applies to books, as nowadays there are other means to get your children to read like ebooks, graphic novels or comics. Also, be sure to visit the library, where you will find useful advice from the librarian.

Inspire Them!

It’s no secret that your children will mimic most of your behaviors, whether they are good or bad. Keep in mind that you are their main role and becoming a reader yourself is the best way to engage your children in this activity. Don’t forget to have reading material around your house and at reachable places, as this will also trigger your children’s curiosity.

Reading Nook

Once your children have become enthusiastic readers, you will have to provide them with a space intended to carry out this activity. Remember that a cool temperature and an upright position are crucial to keep your children. Don’t forget to find a silent place in your home and provide it with a lamp and everything your children need to feel comfortable.

If your children are reluctant readers, you should never nag or pressure them to grab a book. Try instead to find out the cause, as vision problems or reading difficulties are relatively common and often discourage students from reading.

Remember that The Tutoring Center has exclusive programs to help your children improve on this or any other academic area. Plus our tutors provide their students with the personalized attention they need to overcome their struggle areas. Consider us next time you are looking for tutoring in Oro Valley.
